It's not much of a difference tbh. I think part of that is remenant belief from Diablo II! Fairly sure blizz have stated they didn't want it to be a big difference or people would just farm the cow level and no other parts of the game. And that is not what they want.

According to the theories in forums, the secret cow level seems to drop best loot in the game (one step above last level of your difficulty), and also has significantly higher droprate of legendaries.

But yeah, D3 is single player game for most, so server problems at Blizz are epic fail.

WoW had frequently 2-3 day outages during vanilla and early TBC after wednesday maintenances.

I dunnoooo. I think the WoW forum would descend into worse rage if faced with a similar situation.

Kinda proves that WoW players are more mature in comparison. Regardless of the minimum age limit of the game.

There seems to be an unusual amount of nerdrage in the D3 tech support forum. It actually makes the wow forums look mature by comparison.

Combining study and warcraft/gaming in general
« on: Tuesday, 07 Aug 2007, 15:48:43 »
Ahh yes, this is something very important.

Who has a study and plays WoW at the same time? I bought 30 days of playing time a week ago and that runs out just as my study start, but I dont know yet if I am gonna pay more play time. I am a little scared that I will waste my study (and I cant let that happen for the 2nd time)  :-\

So my question is, how do you combine WoW and study or do you have any tips what (not) to do?

Thank you very much

I played at uni, for the first 2 terms of the final year. I did not renew my subscription for exam term. This helped, although I just ended up playing more counter-strike and Battlefield 2, it was still less time playing and more time studying (mainly coz i cant play CS or BF2 for a whole day, whereas I can with WoW :) )

Aye i'd definately stop on the WoW while you've got to study. I didn't do squat on studying in school i'd rather played WoW heh...I really messed up my exams with it. You can easily come back after the exams and such are over it's not that bad. *huggle*

Indeed, study now or you won't get a good job and have a long life of hard work and responsibility to long forward to :)

Hehe, I remember having to hide all your computer games during exam-term :) I didn't know you were playing WoW for ages though, it makes me wonder about all the times you were too "busy" to come and see me before the grand campaign to make me play finally worked.

On a serious note, I would stop WoW during study-time myself, but that's because I have very little self-control when it comes to such things. I used to play Lux (online version of Risk) during my exams because it was a quick easy way to let off some steam, get a gaming fix, and it only ever lasts for about 10 minutes or less. Anything else and I'd never have passed (well, that's not entirely true, but only because of the subject I studied - "I'm thinking = I'm revising"...) but I certainly would have got all my facts wrong and scraped through.

Well you weren't to know that you didnt need the discs to play WoW :P

*runs and hides*

Worst thing about playing at uni was that I could *only* play at uni as my PC wasnt on the internet during holidays - so my first character, the (mighty) lvl 33 dwarf hunter "Thorin" on Dunemaul (started on launch day of WoW) went away for 3 months over the summer, came back to find the entire server had levelled to 60 and that there was a 45 min queue to log on, and then when he logged on there was no-one to quest or instance or pvp with...

So my 4th year at uni I made a druid "Sasquatch" on "The Venture Co." who got to the heady heights of level 37 before final exams loomed... then I went and graduated, moved into our own house, got married, went on honeymoon, came back, in september last year got Heff playing a Nelf druid (Persephona?) (to lvl 25 or so) before I managed to convince her that really it would be great if both PCs were connected to the net so we could play together... and Gruff and Heff were born, healer and a tank to make levelling and getting groups easy (which it was/is).

Prophecy was our first guild we joined with Heff and Gruff, at level 40 or so, october last year. We joined because we had met Totes in instances and he was a lovely chap, and I think we had also instanced with Aescwine (?). Leelu was Guild Master and we thought it was a fab guild, but 2 days after we joined Leelu and Alwina proposed a merger with Invictus (which later became bloodhounds). But we only joined Prophecy (we hadnt really wanted to join any guild at the time, but thought it was worth a try) as it was a small, friendly guild not full of raidheads and knobs. So a bunch of people left to join Invictus, but a whole other bunch stayed behind to keep Prophecy going - and we "encouraged" Totes to run for Guild Master (against Boneless if i recall correctly ^^ ). alot of the people who left said that Prophecy would be dead within a week.

And 10 months later we're still going strong! ;D And with the same core principles: "No Knobs"

So I managed to get Heff hooked on the game and we ended up replacing her rubbish old PC with a shiny laptop, pretty much just for WoW - not something one can usually convince one's wife to buy...

And now she has more epixx and plays the game better than me! :'(

Anyway, not that this has alot to do with studying, the topic just made me remember all that stuff :D

Ahh yes sounds familiar, I put everything away when I had exams too even my Game Boy (and I passed, with good grades too!) , but should I stop playin WoW when I study or when I have exams? This means I wont be playin WoW for a year to come

Whats a problem too, its to expensive to play WoW only in the weekend.

But I guess you are right, I dont think I have enough responsibility to put study for gaming

Off-topic, I played with Boneless the whole day yesterday (helped his alt run through SFK twice and he helped me do some quest in Terrokar) He said he knew Totes when he was still level 20  :o

Such memories Gruff :) Doesn't seem like nearly a year though!

And yeah, I remember meeting Totes for the first time in Wailing Caverns when we were about level 20 or something. I think we met Noadonis and Aescwine around somewhere as well, so those were the people we joined Prophecy to be with :) This was after Gruff spent a long time persuading me to join a guild at all, since I was very resistant to the idea. Glad I did :)

I was lucky that I was not hooked on online games while I studied. So I now have a safe job that pay me more than I can spend. And I can pretty much play WOW as much as I like after work and in weekdays.
I would certainly consider not playing during the examn period. Your grades is what will determine your chances of obtaining a job. Slacking too much here may cause problems later. If you have a strong discipline you can reduce your playing on weekdays rather than quitting totally, as long as this does not get in the way of your studies.

It is always fun to look back how you started on this server. I also sometimes think about those "older" days. It is great to see that Prophesy has survived all this time, and grown to become a successful guild. I only hope this will continue.

For me it is slightly different since this character is a transfer from another server, and therefore does not have a long history on this server. However, the character was the first I ever created in an on-line game. So it is fun playing him again after having been through alot of other characters.

Aye, I'd definitely agree. I also find that I enjoy my spare time alot more now. When I was a student, there was always something to be done (they worked us very very hard) so whenever I spent time doing anything that wasn't work-related, I'd feel incredibly guilty. Now, I love having my spare time since I enjoy it far more knowing that I've earned it and that there is nothing else I have to do (I'm lucky since I don't have to take my job home). Obviously, I have chores and stuff around the house but that doesn't really feel the same.

Working hard at your studies definitely pays off when you have the security of a job and are able to enjoy your spare time more. Although now I'm scared because I sound like my parents  :o

It's quite weird to look back to how things started. Prophecy's done really well - it was a strong guild when we joined it and it's managed to remain a strong guild ever since (despite occasional claims from people that 'the guild is falling apart!'). I like to think that it's our core idea of being a family rather than a guild that's helped that. It's quite scary to see how many other guilds that started back then have fallen apart or run into problems.

I guess I never looked at it that way...Well I suppose it is the best thing to do than. Only thing I fear is that when I come back (WotLK will be out for months probably) that I have fallen back to far

Depends >>

If they're Important exams, i'd say lay off WoW a bit..
But if they're just...check-up style exams, or "It's christmas, have a test" style exams, i'd say WoW it up, and hope you dont write "OMFG 1200 DPS!!!" in the middle of an essay ;)
