It looks like the error codes have received a much needed upgrade. I've gone from 33 to 37. Yay! Or something.

Well, the servers are allegedly back up. However, they seem to have limited concurrency rather severely.

Spamming ICC general.
« on: Thursday, 15 Apr 2010, 23:45:28 »
Hi there, I don't appreciate Prophecy members starting spams in ICC general chat and then being told that apparently the general chat does not fall under RP policy.

I politely point you to this extract:

"The General Chat Channel should only be used for finding Storylines (SLs), finding Party Groups, and various other discussions pertaining to the Base Storyline (BSL), game-related topics, and continuity."

Which can be found here for US members:

http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=20458

And here for EU members:

http://www.wow-europe.com/en/policy/roleplaying.htm.

I would prefer if spamming does not not happen and if I can report for it then I do also it's distracting when your watching the health frames of your raid members, tanking a boss, or being aware of the mechanics as a dps. All in all no matter what role I'm doing in the raid general chat spam (and local defense chat spam) is very distracting.

There are those who might say "Well leave the chat then". But why should other people be forced to leave a channel just because there's other people spamming it?

And that ends my mini rant.

Well I would have been asked to change it if there was something wrong with it :P I created it. And I'm not a warlock in case you were wondering so the name does not refer to my class. It's creative and at the time way way back in the day of the 1-10 level grind it's as far as my creativity stretched.

I was thinking of taking your name but alas, it was already taken :(

Ah don't feel bad about that. Taking his name would have probably led to you having an identity crisis and rolling a nelf female, just because you like to look at boobs...

But thanks for reminding us about the use of general chat on a RP realm, im sure it won't happen again  ;)

*Lol's at above post*.

Cheers for the response. I wasn't trying to spark a fight with my post I was just trying to inform those that may not know about said rule.

I think thats a lame thing to ask of us, since there are so many others who say random things, even all day long on trade wich is made for "trading".

I myself am not even on general channels for the very reason of them being spammed with all kind of BS.

Also knowing their sad state I'm still confident that in general the chat quality our members add to those channels (exceptions may happen ;)) is way above the average.

Not saying you are wrong by trying to ask for respecting RP rules, but knowing the state of general channels (and what is worse: /s and /y) it is a wee bit strange to start your fight here.
There are many places where respecting RP players could be improved and the general channel of a raid instance is not the typical place where RP players are found. Improving shouting and /say in cities is much more important, along with non-RP names (like yours ;)).

That said, we will try to avoid it in the future. I might even rejoin the general channel to see it. :)

Let's not be part of the problem folks.

Although it might seem like a minor deal to start some random chatter in ICC general, it might distract people who are in the middle of an encounter. Let's not do that.

Game related topics would cover chatting about how raids are going etc imho, but i agree spam in any channel is pointless, not just general.

I see to be getting alot of negativity here so I'll explain my reason for posting on your guild forum.

I presumed that the person that started it off at the particular point in time was a guild member, the reason I came to this strange idea was because I had swapped character to help with healing on Festergut and while I ran from his corpse to the mini boss, where we then decided to explain encounter, all seemed quite in /1. However the first thing I noticed while explaining the encounter was a 3 line long spam, similar to that of a gold seller on acid.

I was not implying that every single person in Prophecy spams general, just the person who started it in the first place at the time from it took me to run from Festergut to the mini boss. Roughly between 23:04 and 23:15 server time. I promised said member that I would make a post explaining my actions that lead to posting here.

I apologize if my post was viewed as being about Prophecy as a guild, that was not my intent.

However I still stick to the fact that general should not be used for /OOC chat.

This post will probably get some flames too so on that note I'm going to stop posting now. Good luck in future efforts!

"The General Chat Channel should only be used for finding Storylines (SLs), finding Party Groups, and various other discussions pertaining to the Base Storyline (BSL), game-related topics, and continuity."

Seeing your post I just have a few questions for you:
1. Do you report consequently every single spammer who is talking in the wrong chat? This meaning the trade chat, local defense and looking for group. If you do, then this complaint is justified, otherwise you have no right to come for us. Equal treatment is a general principle you know.
2. To complain at our forums is not the way to handle it. In game there is an option to report spam if you think something is spam so you should use that and then this will fall under the right jurisdiction of a GM of blizzard.
3. Indirectly, with alot of goodwill, a goldspammer is a "game-related topic", namely gold.
4. Informally I would like to know, did you wipe, because of the spam. If not, then no harm is done actually.

dear god. such bad behavior should not be tolerated at all. I'd give ruz - dkp since he's no doubt the starter of this incident.

Real comment: Grow a pair and suck it up. Haven't read such whine in a while >> If you fail healing a tank because you didn't react in time and blame it on 2 belfs cybering inside (cybering ain't spam it's rp btw) you fail.

I'm a fellow guildie of Dreb. I came across this and after reading a little bit on, I was impressed even further by the general professionalism of Prophecy. I'd like to point out that I've encountered a number of your members before, and overall, been very impressed with your level of maturity.

On the note of chat systems not being used for RP as intended:
We are all aware of how mutilated said systems have become on our server. Numerous people use /y or /s in a near offensive way. /1 in some regions is just...disturbing. And I really don't need to elaborate on /2. I don't know of anyone who actually enjoys these. If there is any hope of rectifying the chat systems, it won't be helped by people saying "Sure, we do it sometimes, but it's ok because way more people are alot worse in /2, etc" This is what I'm getting at:
Let's not be part of the problem folks.

Also, I can vouch for Dreb here. He does indeed, and has since his first days in WoW, used the report system when just. I would imagine he came here to ask this guild, a rather reputable guild, to help our guild by leading by example, as we try to do. In my opinion, Dreb went about this in a very pleasant manner ^^

Finally, and the main reason I was compelled to post:
dear god. such bad behavior should not be tolerated at all.

This is down right rude, and I'm rather taken-aback. If you have yet to try to read the small print:

"Real comment: Grow a pair and suck it up. Haven't read such whine in a while >> If you fail healing a tank because you didn't react in time and blame it on 2 belfs cybering inside (cybering ain't spam it's rp btw) you fail."

I'm all for defending a friend (*gestures at current post*), but that's unnecessary. Also, cybering may be RP, but it's also a private matter, one that I can't say that I am interested in over-hearing.

Thanks a bunch for listening guys, much appreciated =)
