It looks like the error codes have received a much needed upgrade. I've gone from 33 to 37. Yay! Or something.

Well, the servers are allegedly back up. However, they seem to have limited concurrency rather severely.

Well Ph asked what I was going for, here it is.

Motherbaord
Asus Striker II NF780

CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3Ghz)

Memory
4GB - Corsair DDR2-PC8500
I'm going to run this on Windows Vista 64-bit

Vid
2x 768Mb Asus 8800GTX (SLI)

Sound
Creative X-FI Xtreme
Would have gone for Razor's one, but didn't want to spend another £100

Oh and if you're 'wondering', the new vid cards are like £450 here, so I can get the same performance from 2 'old' cards and not bother about the silly crapness of 'beta' cards.

I have most troubles with choosing motherboard now... I'll take a look at this striker.

Looks like decent setup indeed.

Best regards,
Ph.

Motherboard choice depends on whether you want to go SLi or some other dual setup.

Apart from that, you just want one that gives some expansion possibilities, without breaking the bank on expensive toys like DDR3 mobos.

If I wasn't going for 2 vid cards in SLi, then I'd go for an X38 intel chipset, such as Asus P5E X38, much cheaper than the Striker. The X38 does support dual vid cards, just not SLi. And like the Striker, it supports all chips, including the newer 45n thingies.

Hey,

Your spec is reasonably close to my system, however mine is currently in bits and pieces, waiting for the 9800GT, I sold my 8800GTX like 2 weeks ago. I hope you'll get a better experience out of your Asus motherboard then I got out of my last 2 (P5N32-Sli Plus & Striker Extreme) they both died within a 6 months, both stuck in BIOS. Now last week I got my MSI P7N Diamond and I hope to Sli some 9800GT's soon or at least buy one and Sli it a year later once the price has gone down. I'll post my full specs in this thread once it's up and running again.

Looks imba. However I'm usually against SLI/Crossfire solutions. Double cost, double power requirement, double heat, double noise and you get 10-40% performance increase in most games (sometimes zero, sometimes more), and is a total overkill for most games. Certainly an overkill for WoW :)
Why not a single 9800? Must be cheaper too.

Then again, I'm a "silent PC" fan, so I'd even sacrifice performance to be able to go for a fanless solution.

The 9800s are just out, same cost as 2 8800GTXs but you've got the added risk of 'beta' cards, the infamous Revision 1.00... when 3months later they'll fix the card with Revision 1.00000000001

Ok, so I think now it's good time to say it - I'm getting back to WoW ;-) (installing now).

Installing on my new PC of course, it's not even close to specs you posted Flipp, but I think it should be enough to handle WoW and upcomming Age of Conan/WAR and possibly others ;-).

Setup bases on Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, E8200 c2d and GF9600GT. So far pretty good impression, but will see it in wow (I assume it'll be "WOW!"). As 9600 scales well in SLI if there'll be a need for more power that's always an option.

See you soon (I hope) in game.

Best regards,
Ph.

Think you're brave to go with a brand new vid card :D

Overall looks a decent spec though, how much RAM did you go for? The only caveat is that a standard OS (Win Vista 32bit) can't really handle 4GB, it will use about 3.25 and the rest is wasted. Not a 'biggie' really since 99.9% of people won't come close to needing more than 3GB (I handle 200Mb image files, so more the merrier for me, as well as 64bit to play lots with FRAPing movies).

Hey,
It's Kingston 2GB (2x1024MB dual channel) DDR2 800 and Windows XP (32 bit). I think it should be enough for nearest future ;-).
Now downloading 2.4 patch btw ;-) (it's over 1 GB).

Regards,
Ph.

Good to hear it Gator!

Grats on the new comp and don't worry, that is a good config you got. 2 GB is more than enough for XP (and in normal configuration, win XP 32 bit cannot use much more than that).
I'm a fan of the nVidia x600GT (or GTS) line, good gaming power without being a mostrous piece of hardware at a very good price. The 9600GT will serve you well unless you want games run in 1920x1440, 4xAA, 16xAF.

I have a similar config with a 8600GTS and I can run practically all games well in 1280x1024, even with AA enabled. No, I did not try Crysis :)
WoW does not need alot of resources at all. When it was released you config would have been a gaming monster. And Blizz always designed its games to be run on lower spec comps. I run WoW in 1280x1024, 4xAA, 8xAF, everything set to max quality, and framerate practically never goes below 40.

why you so afraid of new card series? when last time they (ati or nvidia) messed up whole video card line, and customers needed to exchange it to new ones? Right after release almost every internet benchmark site is testing these cards in numerous games and test. Sometimes its a good product sometimes not. But everything move to Mhz, amount of Ram, 256/512bit line, and such. I never heard that  card was "bad" coz of chip underdone.

if you decide to buy 2xGTX anyway, you prabobly buy same cards as in premiere day :)
